Singapore Launches New Green Building Materials Certification Scheme
The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) of Singapore today launched a new Green Building Materials Certification Scheme to promote the use of sustainable materials in the construction industry. The scheme will provide a standardized framework for assessing the environmental performance of building materials, including their carbon footprint, energy efficiency, and recyclability. Certified materials will be eligible for additional points under Singapore's Green Mark scheme, which rates the sustainability of buildings. BCA Chief Executive Officer Wong Heang Fine said, "This certification scheme is a key step towards achieving our goal of carbon neutrality in the built environment by 2045. It will help drive demand for green building materials and encourage manufacturers to adopt more sustainable production practices." The scheme will be implemented in phases starting from July 2026.
